Life, Hackers, Needles and Code…

Level Six is coming. Hold on to your hat lol. It’s a lot of work for one guy so please bear with me. Mostly its testing and testing and more testing, then of course coding for those that want to exploit and testing and then more testing.

So blame the delay on my recent Eye Op and the constant issue of exploiters. Man life would be so simple without them, but I guess it’s a fact of life.

So keep the faith it’s coming !

New Art Inbound

Over Christmas and during the month of January I’ve been working to get some new art done for Core-Exiles to take us in to 2012 and some of that has started to filter through.  Both Graven Metal and also a new Artist Anthony Rajaofera have been creating new art for us.

We have new Ships, new tech and yes as you can see from above new NPCs. So the future is bright or so it would seem and we can start adding more content to Core-Exiles as the year rolls on. Many thanks to Graven Metal and Anthony.

Still @ It!

Nope, I don’t mean coding up the level six extravaganza, I mean still dealing with players who would rather attempt to exploit the game than play it.

This makes the fourth week in a row where pretty much all I’ve done is code exploit search and destroy code. Unfortunately its required, the only real way to catch them. I’ve also spent a large part of the last Four weeks combing logs. Not the kind of thing I want to be doing and certainly not moving Level Six one step closer to completion.

2012 & All it brings

2012 & Counting

Been a long time since I posted. Not for lack of trying but every time i thought i had a break it got filled with something else. 2011 seemed to be a non stop coding extravaganza.

2012 on a personal level bought an Eye Operation and the news I not only had cataract and lens replacement surgery but I also have Glaucoma. Not what anyone wants to hear. As for Eye surgery for a guy with High Blood and a fear of needles being told they wanted to stick needles in my eye and operate under a local did nothing for my BP lol.

Op’s over and what should have been a ‘back to work the following day’ (never believe what a Doctor says) has turned out to be a ten day sabbatical from code and screens. Even now more than an hour at  a time is too much.

A Level too far?
Level Six – the topic on many peoples minds who follow what I actually do for a living :) We have been been working on this for over 18 months on an off and for all of Nov and Dec I did nothing much else from 8 til 8 seven days a week.

Much of it is nailed down on Dev and tested but we still have some ways to go with certain elements of the corporations and Starbase management. Normally I might be tempted t release the completed parts and then work on the bits players can’t get to over the coming month, but due to a heightened amount of hacking and exploiting that have been seen recently I’m erring on the side of caution.

Life sucking Dark side numpties
Whilst I’m at it – whats with these guys ? The games free and still they feel they have to try and exploit the game, for what ? All they do is delay any real work that’s done on the game. I don’t kid myself we can lock anyone out of exploits for good, but we try our best to spot those doing the deed and deal with them appropriately.

Recently we have seen friends of ours have server attacks that were based on Hex decimal code, now that’s some clever shit lol, then we suffered an attack on another of our servers and in the mean time we have dimwits attempting to poke and pry at the code of CE. It does sometimes make me wonder why I bother. Trying to create something unique and fun for people to immerse themselves in is a life sucking task, having some irk try and exploit that is truly evil.

The Bright Side
2012 Should see Level Six complete, once that’s done players from Level 60 upwards will have some REAL challenges and choices. It will enable me to then go back and start to update various areas of the game. There are many that need either a facelift or a change to make them more suited to the current flavor of CE. Remember much of the initial stuff was coded close on Five Years ago.

Five Years – man that’s along time to be sat at a keyboard in-front of a set of screens. LOL Explains the eyes :)

Catch you all later and thanks for listening.

Space Junk orbiting at 17,500 mph!

Is it me or are we loosing the plot here on Earth. We live for the moment it seems and damn the future or any consequence that may come about due to our greed and indifference. The news is full this week of reporting on the problem of ‘Space Junk’.

The last 50 years of Space travel (if you can call it that) has created a veritable space Junk Yard, and only now are people beginning to wonder how to fix it.  They even have a name for it now Kessler Syndrome!

Named after Donald Kessler, who’s in charge of NASA’s Orbital Debris Office. Currently NASA has no more money, no means for additional space launches, and the Russian Soyuz rockets are not going anywhere for the next few months, so at least space gets  a short break. But seriously, we need to take more care of not only the planet but the space above it.
